Carolina Pro Musica celebrated its 20th season with a new compact disc, "The Angel so did Sound it". Patterned after the ensemble's annual Christmas concerts, recorded in the lively acoustic of Belmont Abbey Church, the CD features medieval and renaissance music for voices and instruments plus scripture and poetry as it tells the story of the long-awaited Christ and his birth. Carolina Pro Musica's innovative performances are a welcome addition to the Christmas music offerings combining the recent interest in chant, and the dances of the Renaissance with traditional and folk carols. Featured are chants and carols in their original languages (German and Latin), and folk carols from Renaissance England and France. Instruments include recorders, harpsichord, viola da gamba, harp, lute and percussion. The narrator is Tom Lorenzin. The booklet, with detailed translations and music sources, features a 15th-century altar piece from the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, as the cover. CDs are available from Carolina Pro Musica (mail order, at concerts) and at Borders, Books and Music (Morrowcroft), The Celtic Trader or at Belmont Abbey College bookstore, Belmont, NC.
